Dear Mom

Well I got back O.K. It took me 3 cars to do it but I landed up right at the Exhibition Grounds at about 10 to 12 so I didn't do so bad.

Well all those who were on week-end passes are on fatigue duty to-day so I'm putting out clean sheets and taking dirty ones away. It certainly is a soft job. I quit at 11 o'clock this morning and I go back at 1:15 and expect to be finished by 2:00.

If you come down on Wed. I can meet you at 5:00. I am through at 4:30 but I'll have to get washed and dressed so you can come to the visitors lounge and ask for me and they'll hunt me up. You can find the visitors lounge O.K. there is a sign stuck out to tell you or you can ask one of the guards.

Well drop me a line so I'll know if you are coming early or if you are coming at all.

Well I guess there is nothing more just now.

Your loving son

Dear Mom:-

Well I got back alright at about 20 after 12. I had no trouble getting a
ride. The people who picked me up brought me right into Toronto, but into the
North End so I had to get a Street Car. We came down the Lakeshore Road so it
took a bit longer.

Well I went up and got your letter to day Mom. I guess it's not much use
answering it as we went ovber all that at week end. I had a letter from Grant
as well. He writes pretty classy letters. He has letter-heads of the A.&P.H.
He says he wished he had joined teh air force. Well I guess I'll have to
write to him again.

Well I go into Squadron 1 to-morrow. We do fatigue work there. We handed in
our rifles and bayonets to-day.

I don't expect to be here long. In fact I don't know if I'll be here next
week-end but if I am I'll be home. I guess I will be home anyway.

What are you doing Wed. COuld you manage to get me a letter down here by Wed
afternoon so that if you do happen to come down I'll know and can wait for
you.

I don't expect you will but may very well like to come down.

Sam went over to the States and brought back a little portable radio.
Remember that little radio we were looking at in Spiky's that time. Well it's
one similar to that only it will plug in as well as play on batteries so we
can have music while we're sitting around now.

Well I guess there is not much more to say just yet so give my love to Dad,
Bill and Good bye for now.

Herb

PS. About 100 of us out of Squad 5 got our pictures taken on Saturday and I'm
sending one home. It should get there in about 1 week to 10 days.

I guess you will be able to pick me out in it.

Dear Mom:-

Well I didn't get away until 3:30. I just hung around town from 12:00 on.
Sat for a while in the Royal Connaught.

I arrived at Toronto just before 5:00 and got to Manning Pool just in time to
eat. Afterwards we were issued [2] sheet [2] blanket pillow and pillow case
and shown to our bunks. The bunks are really comfortable with matteresses and
everything.

I met Jack as soon as I get here and we played table tennis and sat in the
recreation room for a while before going in to see the show (Bing Crosby was
on). The recreation room is a swell place. It's a large hall with writing
stands, chesterfields, game boards, etc.

You can get any kind of sport equipment just for the asking. There is table
tennis, baseball, boxing, badminton, football etc.

We haven't done anything yet except parade to church this morning so there
isn't much to say.

I expect to get my uniform on Wed. or Thurs.

Well just give my love to Billy and Dad and drop me a line when you can.

Your loving son

Herb
